People Love Dead Jews: Reports from a Haunted Present by Dara Horn

challenging informative reflective sad medium-paced

4.5

A deeply reflective collection on how dead Jews are propped up to inspire, educate, and uplift their murderers and their descendents. Some of the stories were imminently familiar, others grotesquely new.

Of particular interest to me was the deep dive into how Jews talk about their systemic murder with each other (Yiddish) vs gentiles (English and other European languages) in literature, and how the idea of 'Jewish Literature' in America has been co-opted to be romanticized Holocaust stories with good gentiles peppered in.
