Barrett is his town's mayor and the local playboy and he decides he is going to toss his hat into the ring to run for governor. Barrett runs into Alison, who works for a catering company working an event he is attending, and immediately he realizes he needs to know more about her. Alison, having been badly burned by a politician in the past, tries not to let her heart sway over Barrett in his fancy suit and tie.
As with most politicians, election time comes with scandals. I usually avoid politicians in the books I read just because I don't care for that kind of drama, but even though this book had a couple scandals involving Barrett, they didn't seem to take up a whole lot of the story which I enjoyed. Alison learned to trust Barrett despite her background with politics. I also liked seeing more of Barrett's mother and sisters in this book and I'm looking forward to seeing them more in the other books.
Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross narrated this book well. I did like Wen's narration of Barrett better than his narration of Lincoln in book two. I felt Kai's voice fit Alison's personality well, and she nailed the "mean girl" voice.
THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU IF: You're looking to get into a longer series focused around a big family with plenty of different tropes involved.
