Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman

3.0

3.5 stars. I found many faults in the first third of the book but enjoyed the second two-thirds a lot. The ciphers and history of ciphers and puzzles plus literature were interesting. The characters' feelings were realistic and the resolution to the story was satisfactory.

I would like to read the sequel.

Note: I strongly object to the use of the word "fugly" in a children's book. It can be found on p. 106 describing a fountain. The rest of the paragraph tries to say the fountain is "cement tactics which makes no sense although the misunderstanding of cement-tactics and "semantics" is amusing.
