This was a truly fantastic sequel to what was already a strong fantasy debut. It was exciting, evocative, and romantic. Yarros succeeded not only in expanding her world, but also in fleshing out her pre-existing characters, allowing us to delve deeper into their motivations and desires. Some may take issue with the slightly slower pace of this book, but I really appreciated it; it allowed events to flow more naturally and gave the story a realistic feel. Altogether, a brilliant sequel which left me desperate for book 3.
