The Secret History by Donna Tartt

3.0

I was expecting to really love this book because the premise of the book is something I really gravitate towards in thrillers but this sort of was all over the place for me. I felt that the beginning half was so long and wasn't as interesting as the middle/end half. but even when the storyline begins to pick up characters motives, and actions just become more extreme. Throughout reading the whole book some parts I was unclear with what time frame this book was set in. I felt the characters were unrealistic just by the lifestyle they lived and the way they spoke. I didn't necessarily have a favorite character or any character I had sympathy with. Also I did not care one bit about the Greek language and ideals that were in this book, I felt they were unnecessary even when they were meant to be tide in with the story. Most parts when they spoke or read in Greek, it wasn't even translated for the reader.
Overall, the book as a whole was alright. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. It could have definitely been a 300 page book though.
