The Redbreast by Jo Nesbø
2.0

The Redbreast is the third book in the Harry Hole series. It’s a stark departure in style from the first two books, which were perfectly fine, simple in structure, like James Bond story reduced to a straightforward policeman narrative.

There’s a greater degree of complexity in The Redbreast, but unfortunately, it doesn’t pay off. The book tries to tell two stories at once, but one of them is incredibly dull, and the other feels like it’s just dragging its feet, waiting for the duller thread to catch up, which doesn't really happen until the later pages.

The first chapter starts off interesting, but then the world feels like it’s on pause. It teases that something might happen later on, but gives no real indication of what or by whom. There isn’t any major tension or central thread to pull you through.

My current ranking for the series would be: 1, 2, 3.

This was an audiobook completion that I listened to on runs.
