The Hollow
by Agatha Christie
A clever misdirection mystery centered around Sir Henry and Lady Lucy Angkatell. Their friend Dr. John Christow and his wife visit them at their estate just outside London for a relaxing Fall weekend, and the Angkatells’ various cousins also come. A surprise visitor also factors in, and no less then three of them have a motive to murder Dr. John, who ends up shot to death by the pool. The clues lead all over the place, never settling on any one person. The DI is stumped, but neighbor Hercule Poirot knows a play is being performed. He must figure out who is putting on this play and for whose benefit.
