This book managed to give me some laughs, butterflies and to pull at my heartstrings once or twice, but in the end it couldn't make me commit to reading the next book.

I did really like the familiar bonds between characters, it was really sweet. And the love interest's nickname for the lead made my heart do a little dance each time he said it. If you're looking for something with a fast pace, a big focus on the blooming romance and just want some fantasy and mystery sprinkled in to keep it interesting you can definitely give it a try.

For me the big thing was that it kept a lot on the surface level. The world building, the characters, the adventure aspect all felt a bit underdeveloped to me. The other thing that made me choose to discontinue after book one, was the main character's tendency to go from one opinion to the opposite in a very, very short time frame (as in a handful of sentences). It felt a bit pushy, a way to move the story where it needs to go without much actually happening to take it there.
There was also quite a bit of 'telling' over 'showing' which made things, especially in pivotal moments, feel a bit hard to believe for me.

Conclusion:

If looking for a quick, accessible read that is full of interesting developments and easy to love side characters and which is set in a fantasy world to give you the fairytale vibes, give this one a go.

If looking for a book that will envelop you completely, has a lot of depth and take you on an immersive, emotional ride, maybe pass this one for now.
