Native Speaker
by Chang-rae Lee
Reading this book felt like reading three different novels in one. I actually think the book would have been better had the author cut out the entire story related to the spying. Some of the passages are beautifully written, but I think they would have been more pronounced and stronger within a different plot/story. We never really get to know the protagonist. He narrates the story, but it's as if he is a blank slate --he has some thoughts and feelings, but you never understand who he is.
The writing is very good, but the storyline was difficult to get through.
