Nixonland: The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America by Rick Perlstein

4.25

Less a presidential biography than an evocation of an entire era and national mindset, and it is all the better for it. Breezily written, well-researched, and surprisingly fun to read despite being nearly 900 pages. I especially enjoyed all the bits with Nixon being an absolute fucking freak; he really was a man built for a crueler era. The only negative is the weird liberal-ass both sides thing Perlstein does at the end. Shut up man! Political violence is cool! (When I agree with the people doing it).
