madelenarose 's review for:
House of Sand and Fog
by Andre Dubus III
This book was definitely a page turner, and I liked the two points of view. I liked the Behranis, and was devastated by what happened at the end. I understood Kathy Nicolo for most of the novel, but by the end I thought that she was selfish and I couldn't stand her. I didn't care at all about what she was experiencing in the last chapter because I stopped caring about her and her situation after everything that had happened. I was upset with her for what she did to the Behranis - an honest working Iranian family who came to America for safety, and who SAVED her life at one point! This book made me feel a range of emotions, and the story and characters pulled me in. I gave it three stars because the author was detailed at times when the pace called for it to be succinct, and there were many parts of the book that dragged on unnecessarily.
