Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan by Jake Adelstein

5.0

An amazing book that takes a look at the seedy side of Japan. I already knew about some of this from a photo book I bought a few years ago called "the Pink Box Club", but this added the yakuza element to the mix. The book is very graphic, including descriptions of sex and violent crime in great detail, so it may not be for younger readers. The book is written like a novel, but since it's actually non-fiction, the tragedies that Jake comes up against are very sad. Especially moving are his chapters about the sex slavery industry.

If you're interested in Japan, organized crime, or just a great bit of non-fiction written like a novel - definitely check this book out.
