Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs

4.0

Wow. This was such a good book!

When it comes to Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, I would highly recommend the audiobook version. It was honestly so freaking good and I definitely applaud the narrator for this. It also doesn't hurt that it was all true either.

This book dives into some heavy topics. For example, it talks about what women experienced during this timeframe. There was a lot of rape between "master" and slave but then she also dives into how difficult running away from everything was as well.

I mean, if you had kids.. would you be able to walk away from them and hide without hesitating? Not sure how I would do that.. but luckily for me, I don't have any kids. Unfortunately, hiding was a much better and safer option at the time. More power to her because I would've cracked so easily.

In the end, I am very happy that I found this book. It also doesn't hurt that it was on Kindle Unlimited or Hoopla. Just know that it's an eye-opening book that deserves to be read.
