This is a sad story, but with the characters experiencing brief glimmers of happiness. Lots of mentions of delicious Korean food that made me hungry. If you enjoy multi-generational stories you'll like this. This during a horrible time for Koreans, though I admit, I don't know for sure if things are better for them now for them. I don't know if I could make the decisions that Sunja makes, especially with all the judgment she receives and how if she had made other decisions it would have made things easier, but not better on a personal level.
Graphic: Racial slurs, Racism
Moderate: Suicide, Death of parent
