House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

5 Stars +++. Best book I’ve read all year.

I cried twice and can’t wait for the next book in this series.

The themes of love, friendship, family, and loyalty were front and center in this book. Also heartache and longing. And they were done so good. The author’s writing hit all the emotions so accurately. I felt Bryce’s pain, devastation, and strength. She may be one of my very favorite characters I’ve ever read and I related to her in so many ways. I think anyone who has ever lost someone important to them would relate to Bryce and understand her thoughts, actions, and feelings.

The ending was more than I could have ever wished for. It’s not at all what I thought would happen, how that story would end and it was perfect.

This is a massive book but I didn’t mind. I enjoying living with Bryce, Hunt, and Rhun day in and day out. I was able to really connect with them and it made me feel like I was there.

My only complaint is I wish there was a map, an organization chart with all the characters on it and how they relate to each other, and a glossary of words defining worlds, magical beings, and objects. I struggled to keep the levels of power straight, the worlds straight, the names of the leaders straight and sometimes had to go and reread parts to understand what I was being told. Which is super difficult when you are reading a ebook. (My favorite way to read a book these days.)

But I loved this so much book and can’t wait to continue reading the rest of the series.

**Re-read in anticipation of the second book release- Still the very best book. 5 wonderful, heartbreaking, perfect stars. Gosh I love this book. Can not wait to read the second!**
