This might be one that would take a few reads to fully appreciate. The first copy I tried reading was so bloated with Frenglish jargon that it was practically unreadable, so it took me a while to try again. There's so much to digest about this novella , but I'm such a sucker for Gothic fiction. James avoids so many Gothic tropes that this work really stands out against the others.
