Impact Zone by Courtney W. Dixon
5.0

Oh the feels! Kel and Anders are so great together! I couldn't get enough of them and ended up reading this book all in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. (Typical of Dixon's books!)

In Impact Zone, Book 1 of the Ohana Surfing Club series, we meet a found family with one man, Kel, at the helm of a family business that for years, has taken in troubled kids and given them both direction and a family. Kel had a rough time growing up with only his father after the death of his mom and the departure of his older brother right after giving him anxiety and bouts of debilitating depression.

Kel does everything in his power to keep his and his father's dream alive as well as care for others who didn't have the same support they should have had from their parents. I love that he had his ups and downs growing up as well, wandering down some rather dark paths before landing where he is.

Anders comes in as a businessman intent on buying out small businesses in favor of more tourist-friendly ventures. He is also someone who is exploring his own sexuality later in life after the end of his marriage. He meets Kel during that journey when their paths cross in multiple ways. Along the way, he learns that family - found or otherwise - is more important in the long run. As he and Kel grow closer, I love how he stands up for Kel and becomes a rock for him during the most difficult times.

As always, Dixon's story is a love story filled with steam, but it's also woven with the most wonderful side characters we get to meet along the way, and will better know thanks to subsequent books in this series.

Courtney W. Dixon is an author I discovered via Instagram and I instantly got pulled into her storytelling with the Kings of Boston series. Impact Zone is a happier and lighter series with multi-dimensional characters that aren't morally grey like those in Kings of Boston. If this series is anything like that one, the books will only get better with each release.
