Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong

dark emotional funny mysterious reflective medium-paced

5.0

I read this once through, over the course of trying weeks for me, and now I’ve gone back to make sure what I tasted through tears was indeed pure.

Ocean word’s fizz in my ears every time they leave my mouth, but on my tongue I sense their trueness.

Vuong. You have something the others don’t have. You may very well see emotion, folding out in front of your eyes like ghosts, or maybe it’s a perpetual taste, like the one this book has left in my mouth.

The taste of familiarity, and of not being alone. It’s a taste of the ‘Third World’, an anti-imperialist flavour, an anti-patriotic tongue, and the irreplicable thoughts born from them, from Us, the internationally berated, a beration that strings through generations, but inso creates a language and a touch so soft, so sweet so...

my pen has no ink left (it was all used up underlying and circling)
