The characters and character development are wonderful. The perspective is brutally close and it's extremely effective. You understand exactly where Lion is coming from and empathize with everything he does and every choice he makes and everything he feels, even when it isn't great. And even though you're getting his warped perspective of everyone else and his own situation, you understand both his perspective and what a more unbiased perspective is. Everything he does and the way he grows feels believable and inevitable. It's honestly masterful.
