We Were Once a Family: A Story of Love, Death, and Child Removal in America

This book is thoroughly investigated and well written, and serves as a powerful indictment of the American foster system. It exposes the profound failings of a system that is shielded from accountability for its failures to protect vulnerable children. Due to the weighty subject matter, it's important to approach this book with some emotional capacity. Personally, I found it challenging to engage with it for more than an hour at a time.
