'By the Book' is a beauty and the beast retelling and does a great job with it! There were some small, quirky details from the book-Disney movie and it was fun to pinpoint them, but, overall, the book only takes inspiration from it and it crafts its only cute romance from it.

The characters, moreover, were adorable and their romance, though predictable, was nicely and smoothly developed, as the two had time to bond and get to know each other.
