Hour of the Witch by Chris Bohjalian
3.0
I probably give this a 3.5-4 stars. The first half of the book dragged a bit. And the “Thees” and “Thous” and “prithees”were hard to get used to!
The first half of the book was devoted to telling of Mary’s loveless marriage to an older, conniving and abusive man. After he stabbed her through the hand with a fork. (OUCH! Made me feel nauseous just to read it!) but she finally had enough and sought to divorce him. Which.....is not an easy thing in the 1600’s!
The second half of the book continues Mary’s story. And it was definitely much more of a page turner.
There were a couple of unexpected twists at the end that I never expected!!!
It’s long. The language can be a bit much. But once I sat down and devoted myself to finishing, it was worth the read.
