Fun read, definitely looking forward to continuing the series. It's a YA book, but the writing seemed more middle-grade. The mystery was interesting and I was keen to find out the ending but I felt that most of the mystery was pushed to the next book in the series and the book didn't have a satisfactory conclusion. The main questions of the story were left unanswered, and I disliked that. It was a page-turner but it didn't leave me satisfied at the end.
The Hawthorne family dynamics are screwed up, and the sexual ethics in the story aren't there. A side character's creative use of words similar to curse words kept the book clean from cursing (i think) but the creativity was very thinly veiled.
