I bought this book as a gift to myself with a gift card from Christmas. I'm glad I did. It was very good. I've been into Chinese history and culture lately and when I realized I could afford this book, I had to have it. It tells of the 47 year reign (1861-1908) of Cixi, the Dowager Empress. She did incredible things for her country, never letting setbacks stop her from doing the things that she thought were ultimately right for China. She wasn't wrong. Cixi was a brilliant woman who always had the welfare of her people in mind.

I liked the way Mrs. Jung portrayed Cixi and I plan to get my hands on more of her books (like the biography of Mao Zedong).
