Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

3.0

i had expected this to be a much harder sci-fi read than it turned out to be. it is definitely something that anyone can just pick up and understand, which i appreciated. giving this 3- stars, however, because everything in this book moved way too fast, and characters got out of situations far too easily.

for example, there's a part where some characters are supposedly confronted with "the most territorial and dangerous dinosaurs in the park," but then their interaction with said 'saurs lasts maybe three pages?? and it just felt too easy for the main characters. especially when you see non-main characters dying pretty brutally left-and-right. idk the stakes just felt super low by the end and i was a bit disappointed.

eager to rewatch this movie now as an adult to see if it's really as terrifying as i remembered. if the book is any indication, it won't be lol

edit to add: also found it SUPER annoying that every male in the book is referred to as dr. or mr. [last name] or just [last name], whereas dr. ellie sattler is referred to as "ellie" by literally everyone. she and the children are the only characters referred to in this way for the entire book. UGH
