Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett

4.0

Esk is the eighth son of the eighth son, or she would be, except she's girl. A fact that a passing wizard did not confirm before passing his staff on to her. Esk travels to Ankh Morpork to train as a wizard, except again, she's a girl and everyone knows that girls aren't wizards.

I loved this! It pokes fun of gender stereotypes ad Granny Weatherwax is always a delight. I have read Pratchett books out of order and I find myself disappointed a little that female wizards are almost never mentioned again in any of the later books. Otherwise a fun light hearted read!
