Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

5.0

How lovely and refreshing! I knew from the first couple of pages that this one was special. In such an oversaturated genre, I was really becoming disillusioned by these poorly written, barely edited, half baked stories with weak protagonists, insta love romances reliant on smut, and zero plot or character development! Sorcery of Thorns is miles above that.

This book has so many positive qualities: First being that it is just written well. You can tell great care went into creating this world and the story itself is paced perfectly in my opinion. I was hooked and riveted. Her characters are fully realized and believable. The romance is secondary to the plot and it actually develops so naturally. Nothing too spicy, so I would feel comfortable recommending this book to younger teenage readers.

As a lover of books and libraries, I was so fond of the setting and could feel that love shared with our protagonist as I was reading. I actually teared up a little towards the end, and that almost never happens to me anymore.

My biggest and only gripe was just some of the names being too much. A hospital/asylum called Leadgate? Petronella Wick? Felt a little cheesy.

Overall, I am very happy I picked this up and would love to read more in this universe by this author in the future.
