Heavy: An American Memoir by Kiese Laymon

challenging dark emotional hopeful informative reflective sad medium-paced

5.0

Heavy is a powerful memoir of Kiese Laymon's life thus far. It's a hopeful and devastating, heart wrenching and heartwarming account of being a Black child, and then a Black man in America. Laymon writes in a modern stream of consciousness style, but what's really incredible is how he can still weave cohesive themes throughout his story. Heavy was one of the best memoirs I've read.
