A little disappointed. I really liked some of the stories and Joyce’s writing is always poignant. Still, it feels a bit undercooked. The concept is cool and works well, but I think many of the stories are too short for the reader to gain attached to the characters.
Araby stands out as my favorite story because it follows a concise narrative. Others stuck with me as well, but most now just blend together in my memory.
Despite my disappointment, I am glad I read this. It is interesting to see how Joyce worked with the idea of representing normal people as he grew older, and reading this in context makes it much more interesting.
