What If You & Me by Roni Loren
5.0

Shout out to this Roni Loren book that I was fortunate to listen to on audio book courtesy of Libro.fm.

Andi is a podcaster for all things horror. She’s been long term single and has an aversion to relationships and intimacy, due to a precious unpleasant experience of the ex-is-a-serial killer type.

Hill is a retired firefighter after suffering an injury on duty, resulting in a lower leg amputation. Hill can’t imagine getting back to his former level of functioning, both physically and emotionally, and he’s certain he has nothing to offer a partner following the dissolution of his engagement after his accident.

When Andi and Hill cross paths as next door neighbours, Hill coming to Andi’s rescue on more than one occasion, the pair help each other. Hill helps Andi with her anxiety in relationships and Andi helps Hill explore some alternate career pathways through her knowledge of social media.

Neither plan on enjoying each other’s company quite so much. And then they do.

This book is a delight. Swoonworthy romance between individuals dealing with their own stuff, who appreciate the idiosyncrasies and differences in one another, and begin to rely on each other, tentatively at first, and then with increasing fervour. The steam is … well steamy, particularly on audio and done really well. I loved the horror references and Andi’s take on the genre and how she related to her friends and Hill regarding the genre.

This is the first Roni Loren for me, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

All the stars.
