This is a beautiful story of two girls growing up and experiencing the same events with completely different perspectives, ultimately leading to resentment, estrangement, and finally, reconnection. The Ghanaian setting was wonderfully described. There is so much in here about women’s roles, familial obligations, race and class in America (specifically being Black in America). While the first half was both fast-paced in terms of the time jumps, it dragged a bit for me because I didn’t love Akorfa’s POV. However, the second half was totally gripping hearing the same events from Selasi’s POV. I would definitely read from this author again.
