I was chosen to recieve an ARC of this book, but my opinions are all voluntarily given and are 100% my own.
Holy crap!! First of all, Vasilisa Drake does not hold back in this fantasy realm where witches, vampires, and voids (non-magical folk) live. Raphael and Samara first meet in a prison, and in a not so typical fashion: SHE facilitates HIS escape. Gotta love the heroine taking the lead, even if it just because he's the better of two options!
Throughout the book you get to watch Samara battle a lot of previously held prejudices, as Raphael continues to show her that not everything she remembers is true about his kind. Their relationship is definitely slow burning, although it is very obvious that Raphael falls first. He is very much the possessive MMC, and will do anything and everything to ensure Samara's safety/well being. I loved Samara's ability to call him out on certain practices and beliefs that Raphael held. It was very obvious that they worked well together.
This story is book one, and there is most definitely a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers at the end! I cannot wait to read the next one.
