Find Me by André Aciman

3.0

i will preface this by saying that i love aciman and have read most of what he has written. while cmbyn presents some of the best of his writing (imho), Find Me follows the depressing drudgery of enigma variations and it is only its elio chapters which take it out of the pits. oli’s fine too.

The first chapter is such middle-age crisis selfserving smug wanking off that I was shaken to my very core and petrified of what was to come. not what i wanted or expected, that chapter, not at all.

the second - much better. ok, even. (Says a lot abt how i felt about the first one don’t it). I did not like M, and i still find him the definition of the word limp, but ok. Where are the luxo gardens??? They demand a cameo.

The third one reeked of enigma variations (they all did, but the 1st and 3rd especially) but was manageable. Lovely to read oliver.

Quatro - thank fuck thank christ thank obama. all good. almost all forgiven. as someone who has read out of egypt, the setting has a bitter sweet tang.

I didn’t want a sequel and I cried while reading it. Even when I hated the plot and found the characters boring (lookie ch1) i was still moved. And I guess it makes sense at the end. Was this necessary? No. Am I looking forward to the film? Mais oui.
