Ties That Tether
by Jane Igharo
This is a solid 3 star read: engaging story, wonderful Nigerian & Spanish cultural references, but a bit clunky in delivery.
The main character, Azere, loves rom coms & that is used throughout to explain things that are happening (ex. “Just like Rose in Titanic, I was...”) which is cute & fun once, but not as many times as it happened. They were also almost always accompanied by a summary of the film which took you out of the main story & seemed unnecessary. Probably if you read romance novels, you’ve seen these movies...
Anyway, I would recommend it to romance readers because there are some plot points we don’t see often & the cultural aspects are really interesting. But it’s not one that I’ll probably ever go back to.
