I finally got around to reading this book after going to Jake's launch in Sheffield last year! 👏🏼
This was such a well-research, powerful history of the power of working together. Starting in the 1960s and winding their way through the present day, Jake takes readers into the heart of movements that involved solidarity with queer rights groups. Topics included:
● working class struggles
● Black Panthers
● Anti-war protests
● Sex worker's rights
● Disability and mental health
● AIDs crisis coalitions
● Supporting striking miners
● Fat phobia/liberation
● Apartied
● Climate change
● Immigration
● Reproductive rights
● Black Lives Matter
Showing the power of these movements also includes showing that they're global and international pressure can often do wonders for causes of all kinds. Everything is connected and louder when marginalised groups come together to support one another. This book is hopeful and encouraging - it is apt for these current times where so many rights are under threat.
A perfect Pride month read 🌈
