Metro 2033
by Dmitry Glukhovsky
+ The Moscow subway system is a really interesting and original setting for a fantasy adventure.
- The plot and storytelling is unexceptional; the observations on politics and philosophy (of which there are a lot) are banal. Also there's about 60 named characters in this book, of which (and I'm not joking) *one* is a woman, and she's an extremely minor character who gets one line of dialogue.
