Spit Back the Bones
by Teagan Olivia King
DID NOT FINISH: 23%
Too similar to the content itself, the prose on this one felt like wading through bogwater. I could see the bones of something great poking up through the surface -- the tension between Mila and the boy-who-got away; the haunted whisperings of the dead, and what they want from Mila -- but the Big Event is simultaneously too named and also kept frustratingly mysterious, and I think at the moment this book is just too slow-paced for what my brain needs to be reading. This is absolutely the swampy, creepy, slowly foreboding and densely prosed book of someone's dreams. Just not mine.
