not sure if I didn't like this book at all because it isn't my cup of tea or if it's because it's a bad one. I found it incredibly boring and very mediocrely written. I've never read anything by Allende before and I'm extremely disappointed. I had much higher expectations for such a renowned author. I enjoyed the themes of colonization and mankind's exploration of the wilderness but I didn't find them especially well developed. the magic aspects felt forced and everything was very convenient.

I know this is a beloved childhood book for many people and maybe I should have read it when I was younger but I'm very very unimpressed
