Runaways, Vol. 1: Find Your Way Home by Rainbow Rowell

3.0

As a non-reader of comics who desperately wants to be a reader, I basically judge the first volume of any series by whether or not I can understand enough of the backstory to be invested.

I understand almost nothing about the backstory of the Runaways. Which is a damn shame, because what I can infer is that these are the children of Marvel super villains who rebelled against (and possibly killed?) their parents and...er...ran away.

But some stuff happened before the start of this comic that led to a character who is kind of a grumpy bitch dying. And all of the Runaways scattered. I know little to nothing about who they are supposed to be, so it's hard to be invested.

There are a LOT of cats in here, though, and that helped.

I am genuinely intrigued, I will read volumes 2 and 3. But honestly, this didn't really lay enough groundwork for what I missed.
