This was a reread for me. And it's my favorite of the series.
Laura Thalassa has a way with words. She shows without telling, a difficult thing to do well. But when Pestilence is introduced, the reader knows immediately how lonely and unhappy he is. He has a mission to fulfill: end humanity through plague. Sara, plucky as she is, is equally lonely and unhappy. She too has a mission: end Pestilence. That juxtaposition sets both on a path of discovery, forgiveness, understanding, and mercy.
Absolutely stellar storytelling!
