An exploration of perspectives around women of Hindu mythology, the Sati series is a retelling of the Panch Kanyas - Ahalya, Kunti, Draupadi, Mandodari and Tara.
Personally, I love a good mythological retelling and am consistently fascinated by how such authors are able to so confidently reconstruct entire worlds and weave them so seamlessly into what is already known, especially if what is known is very little, as in the case of Ahalya and Mandodari.
Each of the five tales brings different sides of Hindu mythology to light, exploring areas that are otherwise left relatively unknown and unspoken.
The language in this series is particularly beautiful, with its lyrical and descriptive style transporting you instantly to a surreal world of gods, humans and nature - alien in its beauty and power, and yet full of universal human truths.
My personal favourite in this series was Ahalya, but I enjoyed them all.
