Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

This was a surprise book for me! I didn't think I would dislike it, but I didn't know I would enjoy it quite as much as I did!

Let me start off saying that people REALLY over exaggerate about how "dark" this book is. No, it's not all rainbows and unicorns, but it's not the something that people made seem like the devil himself had written. It talks about dark topics and how they happened. I don't know if people just come into this with the wrong idea or what but, I have read way worse and reality is a hell of a lot more horrendous - but I digress.

The beginning of this book is both very interesting and a bit of a slog. I enjoyed learning about the magics and how they are tied to the houses and the town and Alex's story itself, but it also felt like I was a freshman in college again trying to learn how to get to my classes. I guess points for being on brand, but it was not my favorite. Once the ball starts truly rolling I was locked in. There was action and excitement and enough going on that nothing ever felt boring or over used - all while staying in a weird realm of believable. I was originally going to put off going right into the next book but now I am excited for it!
