One August Night* by Victoria Hislop, Victoria Hislop

1.0

One August Night could have been many things. It could have been a deep dive into the soul of Andreas, shut away in the terrible conditions of a Cretan jail for killing his wife. We could have looked into the heart of Maria as she forgave him (perhaps while trying to improve conditions in the prison). We could have explored the ongoing stigma this family must have faced. Instead we get Manolis running away, finding a job and making some friends before running away even further. I still don’t understand what it was about Anna that led to this story and , yes, I have read The Island. I didn’t expect much and I got even less.
