I'm not sure if I loved this book because of the book or because I grew up watching and loving the movie. I wanted to be Idgie when I was little. However, reading the book really opened up my eyes about the movie. Call me naive, but I did not realize that Ruth and Idgie were in a relationship, the movie only subtly alluded towards it. Their relationship is such a beautiful part of the book that I wish it would have been represented in the movie. In the end, regardless of whether I was influenced by the movie or not, I really enjoyed the experience of reading this book.
