radh 's review for:
Onyx Storm
by Rebecca Yarros
adventurous
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
Character
Strong character development:
Complicated
Loveable characters:
No
Diverse cast of characters:
Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
Not worth it. I forced myself to finish this one for the sake of the series, but it was not good.
Complaints:
•The characters were annoying and flat, even the ones I liked in previous books
•Too many characters. I could not keep them straight and did not care about them enough to learn them.
•So so many overly convenient coincidences that shaped the whole book and made the plot possible. The amount just felt like cop-outs for Yarros and an excuse to not have to actually come up with ideas and connections
•the main relationship between Violet and Xaden was not well-written. Yarros completely ignores any character building and personality that she had previously established with them when they are together. Also the sex scenes were so cringey I skimmed/skipped most of
• the last few chapters randomly switched to different people's POV's even though most of the book was only from Violet's. Same thought process, voice, interaction with others, etc. There was nothing unique about the personality or tone to differentiate between the Violet chapters and Imogen/Xaden.
