Lola in the Mirror by Trent Dalton

hopeful sad fast-paced

3.0

This was a fun and almost magical adventure. Dalton’s great strength is the deeply-flawed-yet-deeply-loved mother, and he does it well again here, but the central child and the plot around her just doesn’t read as achingly true and real as the world he built in Boy Swallows Universe. Is it possible to write a believable teenage girl if you haven’t been one?
