This was a fast easy read, and more or less fulfilled the promise of the author for a “powerful escape.”
Otherwise, this was 400 pages of somewhat lackluster writing. I think it lacks editing; there’s a typo in a character’s name, redundant details, and honestly superfluous details (there are heirs, enforcers, spies, and accountants; is a definition of those groups necessary?)
Further, for a book that states it’s for mature readers, it’s not very spicy or violent. As a personal preference, I can’t stand the artwork. It makes it feel very cheesy and took me out of it at times. I will say that the accompanying playlist is banging.
Can I give this a good review? No
Will I keep reading the series? Eh…I have a feeling I get through book 3 then get bored.
