The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
slow-paced
3.0
Overall, the story was great. My critiques of the book are more personal preferences, so take them with a grain of salt.
The timeline jumping is dated, but still difficult to follow for me. I prefer “3 months ago,” “10 years ago,” etc. dates are fine, but I struggle with making the connections in my head without another reference. This made the book confusing and I had to reread at times.
The detail and writing are great, but there were times, specifically before 60% of the book, where I feel like it just dragged on.
I loved the cast of female characters, and there was great character development, however there are a lot of details; specifically with Judyta and Tracy, that I personally felt didn’t really add to the book and weren’t necessary for the plot of the story. Some may disagree, just my hot take.
Did it live up to the hype? I don’t know. For some, maybe? For me, I would say no.
It’s worth a read, but it won’t be one I ever think to recommend.
