The Women by Kristin Hannah
5.0

An incredibly descriptive and heart-wrenching story full of fantastic characters and descriptive prose. Hannah captured not only the day-to-day experiences of those involved in the war but also the broader cultural context they existed in without it ever feeling like a history lesson. We follow Frances through the lowest of lows, the most unbelievable losses, betrayals, love and heartache, friendship, and the complete abandonment of the women who served by the medical system, the government, and the American people. Frances could not make a good decision to save her life but I loved her anyway. I cried like a baby at the end of this and could not stop thinking about it when I wasn't reading it, truly a stunning piece of historical fiction.
