I've read other series by Amélie Wen Zhao and I also loved this book. The Scorpion and the Night Blossom is the first in the duology of The Three Realms with the second book expected to come out early next year.
Both in this book and in prior books I've read from her the first thing I notice is how great she is at world building. The way she describes the characters and the landscape really help paint a vivid picture in my mind.
Personally, I've read a lot of books like this so some aspects to me were predictable, but I still loved the story. Our FML goes through quite the journey of learning about herself and through her literal quest to travel to the world of the immortals in the hopes of earning something that will help her family. Our ML is more mysterious and as the plot goes we really do learn quite a bit about both.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who C-dramas or Asian fantasy/romantasy. There wasn't a crazy cliffhanger on this one, but definitely enough of one to get you excited to see what happens next.
